Gabriel Medina was born in Queens, New York, and later moved to California, where he grew up in the Bay Area. After graduating from Heritage High School, his path to a legal career started with attending Sonoma State University, majoring in biological studies with the goal of becoming a veterinarian. After his freshman year, he returned home and spent a year in community college studying the administration of justice after deciding to explore his long-standing interest in criminal law and the judicial system.
Gabriel completed his undergraduate career at UC Davis studying political science and public service. After spending a gap year working as a legal consultant serving various law firms in the East Bay, he ultimately accepted an offer to attend Santa Clara University School of Law in the Fall of 2020.
During law school, Gabriel deliberately pursued experiential opportunities that would prepare him for a career in criminal defense. He worked as a felony trial intern at the Santa Clara County Public Defender’s Office assisting in the defense of serious felony sex cases, including serving as second chair at trial. In his final year of law school, Gabriel was selected to join the Northern California Innocence Project as a clinical student, where he worked ardently on habeas corpus petitions and other challenging legal projects directed toward securing the exoneration of wrongfully convicted individuals throughout California.
After graduating from law school in 2023, Gabriel worked as a law clerk for the Public Defender’s Offices in both Fresno County and San Joaquin County. Wasting no time after passing the bar and being sworn in as an attorney, Gabriel kickstarted his legal career as a Deputy Public Defender in San Joaquin County, quickly garnering extensive courtroom experience and sharply honing his written and oral advocacy skills before returning to serve the members of his home community in the Bay Area.
Gabriel is steadfast in his commitment to using the blessing of his legal education and experience in faithful service to members of his community and the public interest. He meets clients exactly where they are, with unwavering patience, empathy, and respect—never losing sight of the fact that what may appear to a seasoned attorney as a simple or routine case may well be one of the most tumultuous, uncertain, and consequential moments in the life of the person he has the privilege of representing.
Gabriel delivers thoughtful, strategic defenses that not only protect his clients against the full force of the government, but also uphold the integrity of the criminal justice system itself—requiring it to operate lawfully, transparently, and fairly for every individual, regardless of identity, status, or station. Gabriel has achieved excellent results for his clients, including dismissals through carefully crafted pre-trial motions and well-reasoned, precise oral arguments, as well as remarkably favorable resolutions by forceful, strategic, and persuasive negotiations with opposing counsel.
Gabriel is honored to join the distinguished team of phenomenal attorneys and invaluable staff at Tully & Weiss.
